Ah, also I managed to run into a Gaza protest. I really just wanted to go to the Catacombs at Denfert-Rochreau but the whole plaza was packed about 4 blocks out, and there were police everywhere! It was rather insane. I snuck around taking photos, but even as an observer I was still handed tons of literature — especially by the French Communist Party.
When it came down to it, there were essentially two types of protesters in the mix — those against Western imperialism (ie: the ones shouting slogans over megaphones) and your typical protest-loving frenchman who was angling for divestment from Israel. So really, it was an interesting melange of bloody images and bulleted literature … oh and there was food everywhere!
Ah, but one last thing. You could tell some of the protesters were sad they couldn’t bash Bush anymore! I didn’t see any Obama stuff anywhere, but you could tell the American scapegoat would be missed.

Note the shoe on a stick, it was pointed towards a line of policemen at the head of the protest route.

    About

I'm a third year University of Chicago student with a concentration in Political Science and a minor in French Language and Literature. In the Winter of 2009, I'll fulfill my dream of studying abroad in Paris, with an enrollment in a ten-week social sciences program.

I've always been passionate about La Ville-Lumiere, and I'll try to take in as much of this magnificent city as I can ... naturally with camera in hand & blogging on my mind.

I hope you enjoy my sometimes ramblings as I try to jot down my manifold experiences. If you're so inclined, you could even buy me a croissant!

    Contact

You can try to reach me via skype, but an e-mail would be just as nice. For the really ambitious, I also have an mailing address at my dormitory:
