So maybe it’s just me. But this whole martyrdom of Saint Denis really got me reading a lot about him. One of the most interesting things I’ve yet read about him has to be this excerpt from his wikipedia page —

Denis’ headless walk has led to his being depicted in art decapitated and dressed as a Bishop, holding his own mitred head in his hands. Handling the halo in this circumstance offers a unique challenge for the artist. Some put the halo where the head used to be; others have Saint Denis carrying the halo along with the head.

So really? What do you do with the halo — Quite a quandary indeed.
Also I really get the sense that the French love the whole notion of decapitation. I wonder how well recieved Saint Denis was as a popular figure during the time of the French Revolution?

    About

I'm a third year University of Chicago student with a concentration in Political Science and a minor in French Language and Literature. In the Winter of 2009, I'll fulfill my dream of studying abroad in Paris, with an enrollment in a ten-week social sciences program.

I've always been passionate about La Ville-Lumiere, and I'll try to take in as much of this magnificent city as I can ... naturally with camera in hand & blogging on my mind.

I hope you enjoy my sometimes ramblings as I try to jot down my manifold experiences. If you're so inclined, you could even buy me a croissant!

    Contact

You can try to reach me via skype, but an e-mail would be just as nice. For the really ambitious, I also have an mailing address at my dormitory:
